Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

FAQs

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

For your first visit, you will need to bring :
1) Your insurance Card
2) A valid photo ID
3) Your most recent pair of glasses or prescription.

Can I bring family members and kids to the visit?

Yes! If you have an overbearing family where your 3 sisters, 4 nephews and grandpa want to be there for your appointment, you have found the right place. Family is important and we would love to get to know your family. Whether you would like to have the kids in the exam room with you or would like us to put on a TV show for them, we never have a problem accommodating family. In fact, it brightens our day.

How long will my first visit take?

The first appointment is the most comprehensive visit. While the time varies based on the complexity of each patient's ocular health, most first patient visits take between an 1.5 to 2 hrs.

What is done during my first visit?

At your first visit, we will do the following :
1. Get to know you!
2. Check your vision and need for glasses (refraction)
3. Examine the front of your eyes
4. Dilate your eyes
5. Perform any testing required including images
6. Examine the back of your eyes (nerve, retina)
7. Recommend treatment
If it is found that a procedure is needed, we schedule it for another day to be able to better budget your time and ours.

Will there be a refraction at my first visit?

YES! Dr. Husain needs to get a detailed understanding of your ocular health. A new refraction will cost $35 and is not covered by most insurances. If you have had a refraction in the last 6 months, we can try and use it; however, we usually like to take our own for our records. Refractions are performed once a year. If you choose, we can give you a copy of this refraction so that you can have glasses made.

What is the point of a refraction?

Refractions tell us whether the problems with your vision are focusing errors, or intrinsic issues in the eye. They can often help us plan for various types of procedures, too. Over time, changes in your refraction can clue us into development of certain diseases like keratoconus, cataracts, and pterygium.

Can I fill my forms out before I come in?

Definitely! We actually prefer that you do. We have invested in online forms that can be filled out from your phone or computer. A link to the forms are sent with your appointment confirmation. It helps us speed up your appointment and ensures we have all the information we need. If you aren’t able to complete the forms before hand, no worries! You can fill them out in the office.
